Philosophy & Mission

The Yellowknife Polar Bear Swim Club (YKPBSC) believes that swimming, both competitively and recreationally, provides an exciting and positive experience in a young person's life. Our aim is to provide an environment for athletes to learn about swimming and training in order to reach their maximum potential n the sport.

Our Mission is:

"The YKPBSC promotes the development of children and young adults through the enjoyment of competitive swimming"

Development means we are concerned with:

  • the physical, social and emotional development of the individual;
  • helping the individual develop his/her potential through personal discipline, competition, and fair play;
  • developing a sesnse of leadership and team spirit;
  • enhancing the development of social interactions among young people and adults;
  • promoting community spirit and a sense of pride.

Competitive Swimming refers to:

  • personal competition which challenges individuals to compete with themselves to develop their full potential as swimmers;
  • competition in a team setting with peers at the same level of ability;
  • a style of swimming based upon accepted competitive techniques.
