in Fort Smith and Hay River

March 31 - April 2, 2009 - Mike Brown, Canadian National Swim Team member and two time Olympian (2008 Beijing and 2004 Athens) was in Fort Smith and Hay River - March 31 to April 2. Mike swam with and ran practices for the Fort Smith Hurricanes Hay River Lions swim teams and visited local schools in both communities. Check out the photos and news stories below. NWT Swimming greatfully acknowledges the support of the GNWT Department of Municipal and Community Affairs for this tour.

"At the CN trials, Brown smashed his 200m breaststroke record, a mark he has been trying to lower since the 2005 World Championships in Montreal. At the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Brown was a 7th place finalist in the 200 m breast.

In 2006, Brown was a gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne Australia in his signature event, the 200m breaststroke. Mike swam the event with a spectacular time of 2:12.23. At the same Commonwealth games, Mike came in 7th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.27. In the 400 medley relay, he did what he does best by swimming the breaststroke leg with a time of 1:01.32 contributing to his team’s 4th place finish overall." (Swimming Natation Canada website)
